St. Louis Microbrewery Tour - 4 Hands Brewing Co.

We are visiting every St. Louis microbrewery to help highlight the variety, quality and fine spaces we have to enjoy a fresh beer in our fair city.

We stopped at 4 Hands Brewing Co. at 1220 S. 8th Street in the LaSalle Park Neighborhood.

The brewery is just south of Downtown and north of Soulard, the location is perfect before or after a game, a show at the Old Rock House or browsing through the vinyl at Frenchtown Records.

It serves as an important connector between Downtown and Soulard. Hopefully more “connections” occur in my lifetime, as several of our neighborhoods feel like islands, disconnected from each other.

Many of my younger friends who grew up with good beer love this place. As a guy who grew up on guzzlin’ beer like Milwaukee’s Best, Red White & Blue, Miller and Busch, it all is such a joy and fresh as it gets.

They also have a distillery called 1220 Spirits, I assume a nod to the address of the building on 8th Street.

We enjoyed an IPA and a citrusy ale, both delicious.

You can order food from Peacemaker, a popular restaurant in the Benton Park Neighborhood where they have a small kitchen on site. It was tasty.

Per city records, the buildings range from a 1908 office building and 1939 & 1960 warehouses. The conversion to a brewing operation is pretty impressive, and there are two floors in the tasting room.

The downstairs is smaller, more intimate and has a full selection of beers.

The upstairs is more banquet style, spacious and has projections of the game on the walls, another bar and skee ball, pinball and old school video games.

There was a stage set up for a band.

The vibe is kid friendly upstairs and more adult and subdued downstairs.

There is also a small sidewalk seating area right outfront for those beautiful days.

They have hosted small markets and food truck days on the adjacent parking lot. Those are a lot of fun.

I’ve read that 4 Hands will be opening a small tap at Kiener Plaza. Their selections are all over town and get great distribution. You can find City Wide almost anywhere.

Just another great example of the variety, quality and fun spots you can visit in St. Louis.
